Events: Weekly Workshops In Full Swing!

This week marked the beginning of the GTP workshop series for the 2014-2015 academic year. The free workshops—open to all graduate students, faculty, and staff—are designed to help develop teaching, learning, and professional skills. Read on for a brief description of the weekly workshops (all take place in Atlas 200):

Monday Workshops: Mondays @ 2:00-3:00 PM Monday workshops focus on concrete strategies, techniques, and methods to help you teach better in the classroom.
Technology Workshops: Tuesdays @ 9:00- 10:15 AM These workshops explore ways to maximize your use of technology in the classroom. Expanding your technological proficiency and skill can be especially helpful if close to the job market.
TIGER 1 Workshops: Tuesdays @ 4:00-5:00 PM TIGER workshops highlight issues in teaching and learning in STEM fields.
TIGER 2 Workshops: Thursdays @ 4:00 -5:00 PM TIGER mentoring workshops for research assistants in STEM fields.
Friday Forums: Fridays @ 11:00 to Noon Academic Professional Development Workshops. These workshops help you understand departmental culture, higher education, and faculty careers.
Intercultural and Diversity Workshops: Fridays @ 1:00 - 2:00 PM These workshops provide the opportunity for you to discuss international, domestic, and classroom culture in a safe environment while developing new skills.

Each workshop counts toward GTP certificate requirements (click here to learn more about the available certifications). The Fall workshop schedule is available online at the GTP website. Your department Leads will also be keeping you posted on upcoming workshops and events throughout the semester.

If you plan on completing a GTP certification, a good rule-of-thumb is to plan on attending at least five workshops each semester. We also recommend taking a peek at the schedule early and plotting out which workshops you would like to attend.

Regardless of your stage in graduate school, the GTP workshops present an opportunity to meet interesting people, become a better teacher, and build your CV.
